I payed 70 euros for a MAP sensor + the cost of replacing it at an indy (and afterwards the car had the same symptoms), and when i got it to the dealer they said that the MAP sensors in these cars never go wrong and the dealership just cleaned the throttle body and problem's gone. I think for cars like this the extra 20 is worth it, because they are quite tricky to work on and indys without the correct gismo can't find what's wrong with them. ![]() Their labor isn't that expensive compared to independent mechanics.Īn indy would charge 30 euros for one working hour and the dealership charges 50 (at least here in Greece). I have no idea how much would it be to check the chain.Īnd i don't get my car to the dealer for oil changes because i have to get to the capital to do that and i live far away from there.īut sometimes when i am at the capital i get it to the dealer to check it before the return trip home and for some peace of mind. Since the timing chain is on the end of the crankshaft, not in the middle like on some motorcycles, it's not that bad of a job, just decide which kid you want to sell for medical research. Either they don't get pulled around right, or the rivet link gets dropped into the engine, or the rivet link doesn't get riveted right, or it breaks in service. Not like the old days of just lining up the top dead center mark on the crankshaft pulley, doing likewise on the camshaft pulley / pullies and away you go.Īnd if I were you I would avoid using any replacement chain that uses any kind of rivet link, where the idea is you split the old chain, attach the new on to one end, pull it around, and rivet link the two ends of the new one together. I think the biggest PITA comes from the variable valve timing and the need to lock the camshafts and re-index them properly as you do the job. ![]() The R350 I have, of course, benefits from also having THREE timing chains (one master then one to each cylinder bank) to worry about, and of course you would only do all three at once. ![]() If t's Mercedes it's going to be expensive, regardless of which Mercedes.
